Celebrate Mother's Day From a Distance with these Last Minute Vancouver Gifts

Mum's do a lot for us and they deserve to be celebrated and a single day in the year does not sum up how much they mean to us. Given the current state of the world and the restrictions in place in my own hometown - Vancouver, we need to celebrate our amazing mothers from a distance. I am lucky enough to live at home with my mum, so I will be spending Sunday, May 10th, annoying my mum with all my love hahaha.

Most gifts are completely off the table because boutiques, malls and shops, for the most part, are closed. I tried to look for Vancouver-based local gifts for mother's day. This is also a great way to support local businesses and makers. The best places to look for a gift for your mum would be at local grocer-cafes, florists and patisseries.

The Federal Store

If she is a big tea drinker, swing by the Federal Store for their Cookie Box. Filled to the brim with homemade cookies, you get 3 sage shortbread,  rose sugar cookies, 3 dark chocolate & butterscotch blondies and a couple salted caramels. Definitely the perfect accompaniment for her tea. $20 per box More info

Garden Party Flowers

Of course, there are going to be flowers on my list because I love any excuse to bring fresh blooms into my home. Spring is prime time to pick up fresh florals because we all know how the saying goes "April Showers Brings May Flowers!" The flower walk-in at Garden Party Flowers is brimming with gorgeous spring flowers. Now my mother usually gives me hell for "wasting money," but secretly she loves the flowers too. Bouquets and arrangements range in price. More Info

Bear's Blooms

If you are looking for strictly locally-produced flowers, check out Bear's Blooms. Their flower boxes are curated with in-season locally grown flowers. The only caveat being that you will have to trim and arrange the flowers yourself. So be sure to have a vase and spend some time trimming and arranging the blooms for your mum or better yet, do it with your mum! $30 per box More Info

Beta 5 Chocolates

Next door to Garden Party Flowers is another favourite of mine, Beta 5 Chocolates. For Mother's day, they had released a whole array of delicious goodies, from candy bars to ice cream sandwiches, but I just took a quick peek at their website and they are completely SOLD OUT! I would still keep checking as you never know when they might release more inventory. Believe me, the effort is well worth it. I myself was able to get a box of four ice cream sandwiches, so keep checking back! More Info

Krause Berry Farms

Spring is just not complete without a visit to Krause Berry Farms. I miss going out into their U-Pick berry fields, sampling their fruit wines and indulging in fresh berry pies. Fortunately for mother's day, you can bring some of that special Krause Berry Farm life home with one of the MANY gift boxes. They have boxes dedicated to their fruit wines - for the wine-loving mum - fruit pies, waffle/pancake/biscuit mixes and the list goes on! $44 to $175 More Info

Le Marche St. George

This is perhaps my favourite hidden neighbourhood gem and I cannot wait for them to be serving crepes again. In the meantime, Le Marche St. George has curated a lovely selection of local pantry goods, ceramic ware and florals for Mother's day. Also included is a candle by Woodlot, local jam, chocolates and fancy tea. $175 More Info

Nelson The Seagull

On their Instagram page, Nelson the Seagull announced a Brioche French Toast kit for mother's day, complete with a cute punny card. The kit includes everything you need to serve up a scrumptious Mother's Day Brunch. You get Nelson The Seagull's Raisin Brioche Loaf, Avalon Milk Jug, a 1Lb of butter, farm fresh eggs, and "Thanks for Raisin Me" Card. $54 More Info

Fairmont Pacific Rim

For something more bougie and fancy, look no further than the Fairmont Pacific Rim because no duh, it is one of the most luxurious hotels in Vancouver. The Ultimate Mother's Day Package lives up to its name with a four-course meal for two, a bottle of  Moët et Chandon Rosé Impérial plus two champagne flutes, A Vancouver Candle Co. candle, Bathorium bath bomb, Sugarfina champagne bears and of course, a mother's day card. $260 for two people More Info
